The weekend has been very enjoyable but it is necessary to take a siesta in order to cope ev ery now and then. This leads on to the wonder of sleep and its powers of recuperation. You can go to sleep feeling cream crackered and after an hour of good, undisturbed sleep, you wake up feeling so refreshed. The nearest I come to understanding what goes on is when my computer gets hot and bothered and clogged up. How often will I battle on and try to cope before I say to myself I will have to reboot. After leaving the machine to cool down the machinery normally sorts itself out. There is the occasional time it doesn’t and this involves the dreaded visit.
After a battle to get an appointment the expert normally arrives and proceeds to blind you with science and then proceeds to try and baffle your comprehension of what he is doing in order to justify the expense which undoubtedly follows. I must admit how much I regret never having had a computer lesson and how much I regret not being able to totally monitor what will have been done at the end of the visit. I doubt if this area will ever be subject to regulation. However, I must add that every machine is different and each user is inputting different problems and we are asking the expert to sort the machinery out. I’m sure you immediately see the similarity with the medical world.
The Open was open and the winner was lesser known. I admit I get a bit bored with golf on TV all day but then too much of anything gets boring. I got a bit tired of the World Cup eventually even though I love football. There was a nasty crash in the motorbikes if you saw it but otherwise the highlights for me on TV were on the best of ‘An Audience with……Many of the celebrities interviewed expressed amazement for the time Bob Monkhouse did his stand-up during the audience with him. Really? Did these ‘celebrities’ really not know he was an amazing stand-up comic long before he became a game show host!
Flying with filth
If you thought airline food tasted bad before, wait until you read this unappetizing bit of information.
USA Today obtained the FDA inspection reports on 91 kitchens that belong to the three caterers that prepare the food served on nearly every major airline — more than 100 million meals annually.
Federal inspectors found more roaches — living and dead — than they could count at a kitchen operated by LSG Sky Chefs in Denver. They also found ants, flies and the Listeria bacteria… along with employees who were handling this already-filthy food with their bare hands.
And that’s just the beginning.
At an LSG Sky Chefs facility in Minneapolis, the feds found rodents’ nests and rodent poop throughout the joint. That’s in addition to actually seeing a mouse while they were there.
Inspectors at a Gate Gourmet facility in Dulles, Virginia found coliform — poop bacteria — in the rice. They also found shrimp, meats and cheeses being stored at improper temperatures.
That’s not even close to the full list of unsanitary conditions in these kitchens. Twenty-seven of the 46 facilities USA Today obtained records for were cited for food-preparation violations or objectionable practices.
Next time you fly, do yourself a favor and brownbag it — assuming you’re still allowed to do so.

Grandpa’s Secret
Grandpa was celebrating his 100th birthday and everybody
complimented him on how athletic and well-preserved he
appeared. “Gentlemen, I will tell you the secret of my
success,” he cackled. “I have been in the open air day after
day for some 75 years now.”
The celebrants were impressed and asked how he managed to
keep up his rigorous fitness regime. “Well, you see my wife
and I were married 75 years ago. On our wedding night, we
made a solemn pledge. Whenever we had a fight, the one who
was proved wrong would go outside and take a walk.”
