The weekend has been very enjoyable but it is necessary to take a siesta in order to cope ev ery now and then. This leads on to the wonder of sleep and its powers of recuperation. You can go to sleep feeling cream crackered and after an hour of good, undisturbed sleep, you wake up feeling so refreshed. The nearest I come to understanding what goes on is when my computer gets hot and bothered and clogged up. How often will I battle on and try to cope before I say to myself I will have to reboot. After leaving the machine to cool down the machinery normally sorts itself out. There is the occasional time it doesn’t and this involves the dreaded visit.

After a battle to get an appointment the expert normally arrives and proceeds to blind you with science and then proceeds to try and baffle your comprehension of what he is doing in order to justify the expense which undoubtedly follows. I must admit how much I regret never having had a computer lesson and how much I regret not being able to totally monitor what will have been done at the end of the visit. I doubt if this area will ever be subject to regulation. However, I must add that every machine is different and each user is inputting different problems and we are asking the expert to sort the machinery out. I’m sure you immediately see the similarity with the medical world.

The Open was open and the winner was lesser known. I admit I get a bit bored with golf on TV all day but then too much of anything gets boring. I got a bit tired of the World Cup eventually even though I love football. There was a nasty crash in the motorbikes if you saw it but otherwise the highlights for me on TV were on the best of ‘An Audience with……Many of the celebrities interviewed expressed amazement for the time Bob Monkhouse did his stand-up during the audience with him. Really? Did these ‘celebrities’ really not know he was an amazing stand-up comic long before he became a game show host!

Flying with filth

If you thought airline food tasted bad before, wait until you read this unappetizing bit of information.

USA Today obtained the FDA inspection reports on 91 kitchens that belong to the three caterers that prepare the food served on nearly every major airline — more than 100 million meals annually.

Federal inspectors found more roaches — living and dead — than they could count at a kitchen operated by LSG Sky Chefs in Denver. They also found ants, flies and the Listeria bacteria… along with employees who were handling this already-filthy food with their bare hands.

And that’s just the beginning.

At an LSG Sky Chefs facility in Minneapolis, the feds found rodents’ nests and rodent poop throughout the joint. That’s in addition to actually seeing a mouse while they were there.

Inspectors at a Gate Gourmet facility in Dulles, Virginia found coliform — poop bacteria — in the rice. They also found shrimp, meats and cheeses being stored at improper temperatures.

That’s not even close to the full list of unsanitary conditions in these kitchens. Twenty-seven of the 46 facilities USA Today obtained records for were cited for food-preparation violations or objectionable practices.

Next time you fly, do yourself a favor and brownbag it — assuming you’re still allowed to do so.

Grandpa’s Secret

Grandpa was celebrating his 100th birthday and everybody
complimented him on how athletic and well-preserved he
appeared. “Gentlemen, I will tell you the secret of my
success,” he cackled. “I have been in the open air day after
day for some 75 years now.”

The celebrants were impressed and asked how he managed to
keep up his rigorous fitness regime. “Well, you see my wife
and I were married 75 years ago. On our wedding night, we
made a solemn pledge. Whenever we had a fight, the one who
was proved wrong would go outside and take a walk.”

Johnny Red is over from the UK and we are trying to get some time together and I also hope to be meeting a group of people who want to speak Spanish later in the day.It does seem funny at the moment with no World Cup and no Wimbledon. Something must be happening. Oh yes. It’s the Open. Tiger Woods is in town but he seems to have lost his appeal. The crowds are not hanging on his every movement any more. He accepts its his own fault and is telling the media that his family is the most important thing in his life. At least he’s getting his priorities in life right. Maybe the golf success will return once he is completely happy with his lot.

My internet has gone haywire again. I’m paying for 3 megabytes of broadband but I’ll bet I’m only getting .5. I will contact Telefonica again but I can predict the outcome. “It must be something to do with the house alarm.” “No! I think the system can’t handle more than one or two on the line at the same time!”

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDKD), insulin resistance is a condition in which the pancreas eventually can’t keep up with the body’s demand for insulin (a hormone that helps the body use glucose for energy). Eventually, an excess of glucose builds up in the bloodstream — and that sets the stage for type 2 diabetes.

New research just presented at the Endocrine Society’s 92nd Annual Meeting, held in San Diego, shows that natural antioxidants in the diet can be a powerful way to improve insulin resistance — even in people who are obese and suffering from metabolic syndrome. A precursor of diabetes associated with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions (including high blood pressure, elevated insulin levels, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels) that raise the risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as diabetes. Article

Marriage (Part I )
Typical macho man married typical good-looking lady, and after the wedding, he laid down the following rules:

‘I’ll be home when I want, if I want and at what time
I want — and I don’t expect any hassle from you.
I expect a great dinner to be on the table unless
I tell you that I won’t be home for dinner.
I’ll go hunting, fishing, boozing, and card-playing
when I want with my old buddies, and don’t you
give me a hard time about it.
Those are my rules. Any comments?’

His new bride said:
‘No, that’s fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex here at seven o’clock every night…whether you’re here or not.’

(DARN SHE’S GOOD!)
************************************************
Marriage (Part II)

Husband and wife had a bitter quarrel on the day of their 40th wedding anniversary!
The husband yells, ‘When you die, I’m getting you a headstone
that reads, ‘Here Lies My Wife — Cold As Ever’!’

‘Yeah?’ she replies. ‘When you die, I’m getting you a headstone
that reads, ‘Here Lies My Husband — Stiff At Last’!’

(HE ASKED FOR IT!)

*****************************************

Marriage (Part III)

Husband (a doctor) and his wife are having a fight at the breakfast table.

Husband gets up in a rage and says, ‘And you are no
good in bed either,’ and storms out of the house.

After some time he realizes he was nasty and
decides to make amends and rings her up.

She comes to the phone after many rings, and the irritated husband says, ‘What took you so long to answer to the phone?’
She says, ‘I was in bed.’

‘In bed this early, doing what?’

‘Getting a second opinion!’

(YEP, HE HAD THAT COMING, TOO!)

*****************************************

Marriage (Part IV)

A man has six children and is very proud of his achievement.

He is so proud of himself, that he starts calling his
wife,’ Mother of Six’ in spite of her objections.

One night, they go to a party. The man decides that it is time to go home and wants to find out if his wife is ready to leave as well. He shouts at the top of his voice, ‘Shall we go home Mother of Six?’

His wife, irritated by her husband’s lack of discretion,
shouts right back, ‘Any time you’re ready, Father of Four.’

(RIGHT ON, LADY!)

*****************************************

THE SILENT TREATMENT

A man and his wife were having some problems at home
and were giving each other the silent treatment.

Suddenly the man realized that the next day he would need his wife
to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece
of paper, ‘Please wake me at 5:00 AM.’ He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it
was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight.

Furious, he was about to go to see why his wife hadn’t wakened him when he
noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, ‘It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.’

Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

*****************************************
God may have created man before woman, but there
is always a rough draft before the masterpiece.

************** ***************************

Lots of History came from England which is very interesting and sometimes weird……………..?

There is an old Hotel/Pub in Marble Arch, London…
…which used to have gallows adjacent. Prisoners were taken to the gallows (after a fair trial of course) to be hung.

The horse drawn dray, carting the prisoner was accompanied by an armed guard, who would stop the dray outside the pub and ask the prisoner if he would like ”ONE LAST DRINK”.

If he said YES it was referred to as ONE FOR THE ROAD.
If he declined, that prisoner was ON THE WAGON.
So there you go…

More history…
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were “Piss Poor”. But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn’t even afford to buy a pot. They “Didn’t have a pot to Piss in” and were the lowest of the low.

And that’s the truth… Now, whoever said History was boring!

A little known fact….

The first testicular guard, the “Cup”,
Was used in Hockey in 1874 and
The first helmet was used in 1974.
That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.
——————————————————————————————————————-
inmaduro een-mah-doo’-roh (adjective)

immature (person); unripe (fruit)
EXAMPLES

Estás demasiado inmaduro para manejar un coche. – You are too immature to drive a car.

Me encanta comer mangos casi inmaduros con sal. – I love to eat slightly unripe mangos with salt.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Last night it blew a gale here in La Nucia. The wind is a warm wind but it is really fierce and I feared it would result in structural damage. However, we are blessed with a beautiful day with warmth and sunshine and the world looks better for it. The UK has its ongoing monetary problems, the Prime Minister under constant attack and problems of every ilk around the country. However, the newspapers have their priorities. The Coles are going to split up. Cheryl seems a very nice girl but do us a favour…yawn, yawn, yawn………….I have a Spanish lesson to attend so I will post the podcast later.

“Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose.” ~ Tom Krause

——————————————————————————————————————————————

Spanish trade unionists will pour on to the streets to protest against Socialist prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero´s attempts to reform a moribund economy that has left one in five Spaniards out of work.

Marches are due in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia in a show of union muscle designed to head off reforms to both generous labour laws and a state pension programme that critics claim are strangling growth. Full Story

——————————————————-

We really should know better.

Drinking water was delivered in lead pipes for centuries. Finally, lead pipes were banned in the U.S. in 1986 after scientists realized that lead exposure caused cognitive problems and other health issues.

Interesting side note: The UK banned lead pipes in 1969. Seventeen years before the U.S. Just sayin’.

So here in the 21st century, having learned our lead lesson, you might think we’d be wise about delivering liquids and foods in metal containers.

But no.

Interesting side note: More than 70 years ago, scientists at Canada’s McIntyre Porcupine Gold Mine thought they found a way to prevent silicosis, a deadly lung condition caused by inhaling silica dust in the mines. Research showed that inhaled powdered aluminum prevented damage from silica dust. This turned out to be untrue, but for several decades miners would start their day’s work with a deep inhalation of aluminum. In the 1980s, a Toronto researcher gave cognition tests to more than 640 men who had worked in the mines. She found that ALL the retired miners scored in the “impaired” range.

Other studies have linked aluminum exposure to impaired cognition and (more importantly) Alzheimer’s risk. So it was unsettling to come across this NutraIngredients-USA headline: “Food Packaging to Aid Aluminium’s Global Surge.”

If you’re not in the aluminum industry, and if you ARE concerned about the worldwide explosion of Alzheimer’s cases, an aluminum global surge sounds like a serious threat.

———————————————————–
Aluminum tsunami
———————————————————–

More than two billion people in developing countries will cross the line from poverty to working class over the next few years.

But as billions raise their standard of living, aluminum will come clanking along after. According to an aluminum industry insider: “The capacity to manufacture aluminium beverage containers and other food packaging will struggle to keep pace with demand.”

Of course, food and beverage packaging is just one of MANY ways we’re exposed to aluminum. The average person my absorb anywhere from 10 to 100 mg of aluminum DAILY through aluminum deodorants, cookware, baking powder, antacids, and other sources.

And here’s the worst part: Aluminum is able to cross the blood brain barrier that effectively blocks MOST harmful intruders from entering your brain. Once inside, aluminum sets off free radical formation. Then oxidative stress threatens brain cell membranes and promotes inflammation. Aluminum also contributes to the primary Alzheimer’s culprit – amyloid plaque buildup.

In the July 1998 Members Alert, HSI Panelist, Marty Milner, N.D., explained how he helped discover a way to reduce dangerous levels of aluminum.

Dr. Milner wrote: “In a group of fibromyalgia patients being treated with malic acid, we were amazed to note that the aluminum levels in their tissues – as measured by hair analysis – dropped dramatically. This was an incredibly important development, because aluminum is notoriously difficult to chelate (remove).”

Malic acid is available in most health food stores (magnesium malate is the preferred form). Dr. Milner recommends 500 mg of malic acid three times a day for no more that three weeks at a time. But he adds that aluminum chelation should only be attempted if you have established (through hair analysis) that your aluminum levels are high, and only with the care of a health professional.

And for more ways to prevent excess aluminum buildup, I recommend the article, “Pardon Me – But Your Brain is on Fire!” by my colleague and fellow HealthierTalk.com contributor, Dr. Alan Inglis Source

——————————————————————–

Golden Oldies from Jackie C in Alfaz….

No one believes oldies . .. . everyone thinks they are senile.

An Elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighborhood after they retired.

Holding hands they walked back to their old school.
It was not locked, so they entered, and found the old desk they’d shared, where Andy had carved “I love you, Sally.”

On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armored car, practically landing at their feet Sally quickly picked it up, but not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money–fifty-thousand dollars.

Andy said, “We’ve got to give it back.”
Sally said, “Finders keepers.” She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic.
The next day, two FBI men were canvassing the neighborhood looking for the money, and knocked on the door.

“Pardon me, but did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armored car yesterday?”

Sally said, “No.”
Andy said, “She’s lying. She hid it up in the attic.”
Sally said, “Don’t believe him, he’s getting senile.”

The agents turn to Andy and began to question him.
One says: “Tell us the story from the beginning”
Andy said, “Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday . .. “

The rain´s back and it is a grey day of Cornish haar. However, we´re British and we´re used to the rain. Not too much mind. Have you seen what the Canaries have been suffering this week. They are part of Spain and the islands have been badly hit. This is quite poignant for me as I was over in Tenerife with Rockin Rupert some years ago when the rain hit like this. I was due to appear at the bar next to the Toucan, Miranda´s, in Torviscas Playa. We had been up to the Lorro Park in Las Christianas and were on the way back to do the gig. The rains came slowly at first and then in torrents. By the time we got back to Torviscas the roads had become rivers and had to be seen to be believed.

The weather in Spain is pretty bad today with rain almost everywhere. Last night, however, was pretty good as we attended the inauguration of the La Nucia Guide. It is written in several language and has been produced by Bart, a Dutchman, who gave the presentation from the lecturn at the Auditori. He spoke in five languages and various dignataries were in evidence representing the various communities. Of the 18, 000 residents some 7,000 are not Spanish. The British are the biggest group but were not well represented at the packed forum. I would say we had no more than 20 Brits at the event which was most congenial with food and drinks offered to everyone present. I have put a link to La Nucia´s official website on the index of my website if you´d like an idea of where we live. We have 65 different nationalities living here!

—————————————————————————————————————-

Of all the crazy Spanish fiestas that take place throughout the year, there is nothing wilder than the Carnival celebrations in late February. The week leading up to Lent is a time for wild partying in some parts of Spain when the country plays host to Europe’s biggest and best Carnival festivals. The most famous destinations for the wildest Carnival festivals are Tenerife, Cadiz and Sitges though there are plenty more places to enjoy the party. http://www.spanish-fiestas.com

—————————————————————————

Airports to begin strip-searching passengers

You might want to take a minute to say goodbye to your personal liberties. They’re flying right out the window — and, as usual, it’s all in the name of “protecting the public.”

You knew this was coming…After the failed terror attempt on Christmas day, the federal Transportation Security Agency (TSA) has decided to step up its security screenings. Their solution? Strip-search every passenger. It’s not by hand, mind you, but it may as well be.

The TSA plans to begin using full-body X-ray scanners that would essentially strip passengers of their clothing — and their dignity. With these new scanners, no details would be left to the imagination — which is just how the feds like it.

Yup, Big Brother is a big perv.

But I’m not sure which is worse: The threat to your privacy or the threat to your health.

Like X-rays, the new machines use radiation to create these indecent exposures. The experts claim that the low dose of radiation is perfectly safe — even for children and pregnant women.

Baloney.

Exposing pregnant women to radiation can lead to grossly disfigured babies or can even cause women to miscarry. It’s no coincidence that five female security guards had miscarriages after working with these supposedly safe machines.

And it’s not much safer for adults. Radiation can damage DNA and cause structural damage to your cells — both of which can lead to cancer. In fact, Dr. John Gofman, Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, believes that 50 percent of all cancers are caused by the radiation from medical tests — the same ones meant to “protect” you by detecting cancer early!

Bottom line: If you don’t want to be fried with ionizing radiation every time you fly — and if you’d rather not have airport workers paid to be peeping toms…you won’t stand for this outright invasion of your rights.

When it comes to these full-body X-rays, I don’t care how low the dose is. There is no safe level of ionizing radiation. Period.

CURTAIN RODS — PRICELESS

On the first day, she sadly packed her belongings into boxes, crates and suitcases.

On the second day,she had the movers come and collect her things.

On the third day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining-room table, by candle-light; she put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar, and a bottle of spring-water.

When she’d finished, she went into each and every room and deposited a few half-eaten shrimps dipped in caviar into the hollow centre of the curtain rods.

She then cleaned up the kitchen and left.

On the fourth day, the husband came back with his new girlfriend, and at first all was bliss.

Then, slowly, the house began to smell.

They tried everything; cleaning, mopping, and airing-out the place.

Vents were checked for dead rodents, and carpets were steam cleaned.

Air fresheners were hung everywhere. Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which time
the two had to move out for afew days, and in the end they even paid to replac e the expensive wool carpeting. Nothing worked!

People stopped coming over to visit.
Repairmen refused to work in the house..
The maid quit.

Finally, they couldn’t take the stench any longer, and decided they had to move, but a month later – even though they’d cut their price in half – they couldn’t find a buyer for such a stinky house.

Word got out, and eventually even the local realtors refused to return their calls.

Finally, unable to wait any longer for a purchaser, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place.

Then the ex-wife called the man and asked how things were going. He told her the saga of the rotting house. She listened politely and said that she missed her old home terribly and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for having the house.

Knowing she could have no idea how bad the smell really was,he agreed on a price that was only 1/10 th of what the house had been worth … but only if she would sign the papers that very day.

She agreed, and within two hours his lawyers delivered the completed paperwork.

A week later the man and his girlfriend stood smiling as they watched the moving company pack everything to take to their new home …..
… and to spite the ex-wife, they even took the the curtain rods!

I LOVE A HAPPY ENDING, DON’T YOU?

One day, when a seamstress was sewing while sitting close to a river, her thimble fell into the river. When she cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, ‘My dear child, why are you crying?’ The seamstress replied that her thimble had fallen into the water and that she needed it to help her husband in making a living for their family. The Lord dipped His hand into the water and pulled up a golden thimble set with sapphires.

‘Is this your thimble?’ the Lord asked . The seamstress replied, ‘No.’

The Lord again dipped into the river. He held out a golden thimble studded with rubies.

‘Is this your thimble?’ t he Lord asked. Again, the seamstress replied, ‘No.’

The Lord reached down again and came up with a leather thimble .

‘Is this your thimble ?’ the Lord asked. The seamstress replied, ‘Yes.’ The Lord was pleased with the woman’s honesty and gave her all three thimbles to keep, and the seamstress went home happy.

Some years later, the seamstress was walking with her husband along the riverbank, and her husband fell into the river and disappeared under the water. When she cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked her, ‘Why are you crying?’ ‘Oh Lord, my husband has fallen into the river!’

The Lord went down into the water and came up with George Clooney ‘Is this your husband?’ the Lord asked.

‘Yes,’ cried the seamstress. The Lord was furious. ‘You lied! That is an untruth!’ The seamstress replied, ‘Oh, forgive me, my Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said ‘no’ to George Clooney, you would have come up with Brad Pitt.

Then if I said ‘no’ to him, you would have come up with my husband. Had I then said ‘yes,’ you would have given me all three. Lord, I’m not in the best of health and would not be able to take care of all three husbands, so THAT’S why I said ‘yes’ to George Clooney.

And so the Lord let her keep him.

The moral of this story is: Whenever a woman lies, it’s for a good and honorable reason, and in the best interest of others. That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it.

I think it´s sensible to be interested in your own health and I have invested time and money in useful knowlege. Sometimes it´s nice to read articles which compound the views you already have. Tonight, for example, I read an article which explained that we should all chew our food thirty times or thereabouts before we swallow. This does make sense. The article claims we probably all feel a little gastric after having eaten our meals and it is because we haven´t chewed sufficiently before we have swallowed. This then puts pressure on our digestive system to have to re hash the job that should have been done in the mouth by the teeth and gastric juices. Another article went on to look at the urban myth of the benefits of drinking 8 glasses of water per day. Now, the article was claiming that we can do ourselves more harm than good by overdosing on water. The author was explaining that the intake of water has to relevant to the size of the glass and the size of our own bodies. It was further explained that by drinking too much it can put a great strain on our systems and by having too little we can dehydrate.

Here´s an article I found pretty interesting…..

Before you open that can of soup or pop the lid on that water bottle, ask yourself this: How much do I really care about my endocrine system? Your answer is important because even if you’re hazy on exactly what your endocrine system does, I’ve got a feeling you’re a big fan. It’s all about protecting your hormones.

———————————————————–
Cart first…then the horse
———————————————————–

Vital messages are being sent throughout your body. Your nervous system does it with electrical impulses. Your endocrine system does it with hormones.

Endocrine glands (such as the thyroid and pancreas) release hormones into the blood stream. From there, hormones go on to help regulate key functions such as metabolism, blood sugar, growth, mood, and reproduction, just to name a few. In other words: It’s VERY important stuff!

Knowing this, how would you feel about eating or drinking something that contains a compound known as an endocrine disruptor? Obviously, disrupting the endocrine system is not a good idea at all. And yet every day, millions of people eat food products contaminated with bisphenol A (BPA)–an endocrine disruptor. About 70 years ago, BPA was found to have estrogenic activity in the body. This prompted one of the earliest attempts to create a hormone replacement medication. That idea went off the rails when BPA was soon found to be too toxic for use in a drug.

Nevertheless, the food industry saw no problem at all in putting BPA to use in food containers. What could possibly go wrong? The answer: decay. Over time, BPA polymer decays and leaches into canned foods and beverages, as well as liquids in plastic bottles. BPA is also used to make plastic eating utensils, plastic bowls, and–the worst!– baby pacifiers.

And THEN came the studies…

———————————————————–

Two years ago, a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that high urinary BPA concentrations might be linked to increased risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and abnormal concentrations of liver enzymes. New research confirms those risks.

When UK researchers matched BPA content in urine samples with years of health records for nearly 1,500 subjects, aged 18 to 74, they came to this conclusion: “Higher BPA exposure, reflected in higher urinary concentrations of BPA, is consistently associated with reported heart disease in the general adult population of the USA. Studies to clarify the mechanisms of these associations are urgently needed.”

This is where I would tell you that FDA officials have been stonewalling the BPA issue to cowtow to the food industry. And that’s true. But in a recent surprise move, the FDA issued a BPA “update” that recognizes recent research and warns consumers that infant exposure to BPA should be avoided.

Hmmm. Let’s see. Kids are, technically, the same species as you and me, so maybe it’s not too great a leap to assume that adult exposure to BPA should be avoided too.

In a recent article, HSI Panelist Jon Barron cited a Consumer Reports investigation that found significant traces of BPA in every can of food they examined. So the first step in avoiding BPA is pretty obvious: steer clear of canned foods and beverages. One exception: Eden Foods. More than 10 years ago (WAY ahead of the curve), this organic food company went to great lengths to make the switch to BPA-free cans.

And you can easily shop for BPA-free food and beverage containers, including feeding bottles for infants. Just Google “BPA-free” and you’ll enter a world that’s just a little less toxic. Source

Civilization is a method of living, an attitude of equal respect for all men. – Jane Addams, 1860-1935

This was the day before, in 1959, Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens died in a plane crash. I have put a podcast on my site which has the newsflash that would be broadcast the next day. Meanwhile, on the Costa Blanca we have another really fine day. Details will follow.

Here´s an article written by the rebel doctor. If you think it´s just about America then think again. This will apply to the UK and Spain…………

Surrounded by secret chemicals

They’re not just in the water…chemicals are everywhere, indoors and out.

Some of you sharper minds might think you have an idea of how dangerous these toxins are. Buddy, you don’t know the half of it. Not even most of the so-called experts have a clue. None of us do…because many of these chemicals are trade secrets!

A recent report in the Washington Post shows how laws designed to help the chemical industry remain competitive have actually helped them remain highly secretive…and once again, the rest of us get the short end of this poison wand.

The newspaper told of one nurse who fell ill after treating a worker injured in a chemical spill. When her doctors called the company to find out what she had been exposed her, they wouldn’t say.

Because they didn’t have to.

Nice guys, right?

Chemical manufacturers get to hide behind the misleadingly named Toxic Substances Control Act. Rather than help control toxic substances, the 1976 law actually helps companies keep their chemicals secret.

What’d you expect from our Corporate Congress, where lobbyists get the write the laws?

This particular law requires that companies disclose the ingredients in all their chemicals to the government. But it also protects any chemical that the company thinks is important to its bottom line.

Lately, that’s all of them — in recent years, 95 percent of all notices for new chemicals — some 700 of these are filed each year — have contained secrecy requests, according to the Post.

How can you avoid this garbage? You can’t. It’s in everything, even your clothing and furniture if they’ve been treated to be flame-retardant.

But you can wake up and realize that your government isn’t working for you — it’s working for America’s biggest companies. The solution can be found at the ballot box — if you can find a clean politician.

Alan Gee spotted the following………………………..

SIGN IN A STORE WINDOW

‘WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH 1000 AL QAEDA TERRORISTS THAN WITH ONE SINGLE BRITISH SOLDIER!’

This sign was prominently displayed in the window of a business in
Glamorgan, South Wales .

You are probably outraged at the thought of such an inflammatory statement.

However, we are a society which holds Freedom of Speech as perhaps our greatest liberty.

After all, it is ONLY A SIGN, you may say.

‘What kind of business would dare to post such a sign?’

Answer:

A FUNERAL PARLOUR.

WHO SAID UNDERTAKERS HAD NO SENSE OF HUMOUR?

YOU GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

God Bless The Welsh

One day, in line at the works cafeteria, Jack says to Mike behind him, ‘My elbow hurts like hell. I suppose I’d better see a doctor!’

‘Listen mate; don’t waste your time down at the surgery’, Mike replies. ‘There’s a diagnostic computer at Tesco. Just give it a urine sample and the computer will tell you what’s wrong, and what to do about it. It takes ten seconds and only costs five quid …. a lot quicker and better than a doctor and you get Clubcard points’.

So Jack collects a urine sample in a small jar and takes it to Tesco. He deposits five pounds and the computer lights up and asks for the urine sample. He pours the sample into the slot and waits. Ten seconds later, the computer ejects a printout: ‘You have tennis elbow. Soak your arm in warm water and avoid heavy activity. It will improve in two weeks’.

That evening while thinking how amazing this new technology was, Jack began wondering if the computer could be fooled. He mixed some tap water, a stool sample from his dog and added urine samples from his wife and daughter.

Jack hurried back to Tesco, eager to check what would happen. He deposits five pounds, pours in his concoction, and awaits the results with a grin.

The computer prints the following:

1) Your tap water is too hard. Get a water softener.
2) Your dog has ringworm. Bathe him with anti-fungal shampoo.
3) Your daughter has a cocaine habit. Get her into rehab.
4) Your wife is pregnant. Twins. ………………………………………….They aren’t yours…………………… Get a lawyer.

* Lance Armstrong Combines Charity Work, Cycling at Tour Down Under *

Lance Armstrong broke ground on a new cancer research centre while capping his preparation for the Tour Down Under, combining the charitable works and cycling ambitions that lured from retirement 12 months ago.

The seven-time Tour de France champion used last year’s Australian race, the first event of the ProTour season, to launch his comeback from a 3 1/2-year retirement. He emphasized at the time that his charitable and competitive objectives shared equal priority.Go here for complete news story.

Hello again,

Attached is our latest and a new event! If you want to attend please book early because there is limited seating.

We would like to thank everyone who rallied round to our Blanket and Towel appeal. We had a fantastic response and our dogs are now cosy and warm for the time being. We are okay for now as we do not have a lot of storage room but for sure we will need them again in a couple of months time.

Another thankyou to all who signed our petition and attended the Valencia Demonstration against the Act of Parliament to stop councils supporting animal charities. It was their intention to send animals to private companies who would have put them down. Thankfully because of all the support against this bill it was not passed. Well done!

It is utter devastation and puts any worries and problems I have into perspective. How can such suffering be allowed? It surely is a test of faith.
I watched a drama called Material Girl on the BBC last night and the one thing that came over loud and clear is that success in the world of fashion depends on connections as much as talent if the drama was factual. It also showed quite graphically how people shut out talent when they take a dislike to the person involved. Mi9nd you, this was a vicarage tea party where Emmerdale was concerned. In the village they are showing incest, violence and murder….and this is a good week! Never mind, there´s always the peace and tranquility of Eastenders. Cue…Murder…….

————————————————————-

Patrick Wilhelm has advised us of the following….

The Darwin Awards – 2009

Yes, it’s that magical time of year again when the Darwin Awards are bestowed, honoring the least evolved among us.

Here is the glorious winner:

1. When his 38 calibre revolver failed to fire at his intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach California , would-be robber James Elliott did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked.

And now, the honorable mentions:

2.. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting machine and after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also lost a finger. The chef’s claim was approved.

3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. ‘Understandably’, he shot her.

4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn’t discovered for 3 days.

5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train.. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided.. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer….. $15. [If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?]

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he’d just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID to which he replied, “Yes, officer, that’s her. That’s the lady I stole the purse from.”

9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti , Michigan at 5 A.M., flashed a gun, and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn’t open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren’t available for breakfast. The man, frustrated, walked away. [*A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER]

10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle Street , he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose into the motor home’s sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh he’d ever had.

In the interest of bettering mankind, please share these with friends and family…..unless of course one of these individuals by chance is a distant relative or long lost friend. In that case, be glad they are distant and hope they remain lost.

*** Remember….. They walk among us!!!***

A collision between two Ryanair planes at Girona Airport on Thursday is being described as a minor incident with no injuries to passengers, who were all due to be carried on later flights that day to their destinations in Turin and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

It happened as the aircraft were moving to the runway to prepare for takeoff, when one of the planes touched the second’s tail with its left wing.

AENA Spanish Airports described the damage caused to the aircraft as ‘imperceptible’, and it’s understood from Europa Press that both will be inspected by Ryanair technicians before they return to the air.

The passengers were able to disembark the two aircraft in the normal way.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

My friend, Angie, sent me the following…

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less grey hair or a flatter belly. As I’ve aged, I’ve become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I’ve become my own friend. I don’t chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn’t need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with ageing.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon?

I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 &70′s, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love … I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.

They, too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody’s beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don’t question myself any more. I’ve even earned the right to be wrong. So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become.

I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day(if I feel like it).Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

————————————————————————

Here´s another item going around the Internet

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
Word ‘billion’ in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the ‘politicians’ spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
But one advertising agency did a good job of
Putting that figure into some perspective in
One of its releases.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were Living in the Stone Age.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

A billion Pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes,
At the rate our government Is spending it.

Building Permit Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Dog License Tax
Income Tax
Unemployment Tax
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel Permit Tax
Petrol/Diesel Tax
Hunting License Tax
Inheritance Tax
Inventory Tax
(tax on top of tax)
Liquor Tax
Marriage License Tax
Property Tax
Real Estate Tax
Service charge taxes
Social Security Tax
Road Usage Tax
Local Tax
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago…
and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt…
we had the largest middle class in the world…
and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?

My Comment Well, as this is American in origin I think it would help to add in 100 years of population growth, the advent of the motor car and jet planes, the sleaze of politicians, The Wall Street Crash, the greed of bankers and the shenanigans of the stock exchanges around the world. You could also add in World Wars, Vietnam,Iraq, Afghanistan, world policing and terrorism………….I´m sure you can think of more!

————————————————————————————–

John: ” Can you tell me if you get the same heart benefits from red grape juice as from red wine?”

John is on the right track with red grapes, which contain flavonoids and resveratrol. Both of these compounds are beneficial to heart health. But some red wines contain more of these compounds than others. The same is true of different grape juices.

Also, you’d need to drink a large amount of wine or grape juice to reap significant heart benefits. Needless to say, downing several glasses of wine every day isn’t a good idea. And gulping the same amount of grape juice isn’t good either – too much sugar content.

In other words, there’s no easy answer to John’s question.

……………………………………………………………………..

Another Thanks to Ian K from Villamar for the following……….
Dear Mum Letter…..

A mother passing by her son’s bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and everything was picked up. Then, she saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, ‘Mum’ With the worst premonition, she opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands.

‘Dear, Mum. It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Dad and you. I’ve been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her, because of all her piercing’s, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am. But it’s not only the passion, Mum. She’s pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the other people in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Stacy can get better.. She sure deserves it!!

Don’t worry Mum, I’m 15, and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I’m sure we’ll be back to visit, so you can get to know your many grandchildren. Love, your son, Nicholas.

P.S. Mum, none of the above is true. I’m over at Jason’s house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the school report that’s on my desk.

I love you!

Call when it is safe for me to come home.’

—————————————————————

Elvis Presley was born on this day in 1935 and would have been 75. Is that amazing or what? Can anyone really comprehend how Elviswould have handled such an age? More to the point, it is now easier to see the loss the world of popular music suffered at his passing at the age of 42. I think many of us hadn´t really realised just how young he was and the passing of Michael Jackson puts this into perspective for both of these two superstars. Love them or loathe them each had achieved magnificent things in their lives. Also, do you ever wonder at how various personalities have the same birthdays. Off the top of my head Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee share the same birthday.

On today´s birthday file the wonderful Shirley Bassey has her birthday. Her age is just two years younger than Elvis would have been. Others making the Premier league of showbizz include David Bowie who was born a bit later on this day in 1947. The more I collate such facts the more I see evidence of possibilities in the stars. I am not trying to sell my observations just making them! Next, to the weather.

I really cannot imagine the temperatures being experienced by Britain at this moment in time. We are colder but minus 18, minus 20 and with more to come. The picture is a Winter Wonderland until you need to travel. Personally, I hate snow and although it might look nice on the top of our mountains I have only ever had bad experiences with snow. A crash in North Wales, stuck in a blizzard on the Queensferry by-pass, another crash on Anglesey and a very worrying near miss on the M62.No you can keep your snow as far as I’m concerned! Let’s get our forecast for the Costa Blanca and Alicante Province.

Set Goals That Will Stretch You
A value in giving yourself permission to go after the big dreams is that big dreams require you to grow in order to achieve them. In fact, in the long run, this is the greatest benefit you will receive from pursuing your dreams — not so much the outer trappings of fulfilling the dream (an expensive car, impressive house, loads of money and philanthropic opportunities), but who you become in the process.

As I’ve seen many times over, the outer symbols of success can all be easily lost. Houses burn down, companies go bankrupt, relationships end, cars get old, bodies age and fame wanes, but who you are, what you have learned, and the new skills you have developed never go away. These are the true prizes of success. Jack Cranfield

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

A new study finds that men who were bad when they were young are more likely to be dead or disabled at an early age.British researchers followed 411 boys who were between 8 and 9 years old when the study began in 1961. And they found that one in six of those boys who were antisocial by 10 and convicted of a crime by the age of 18 were seven times more likely to be dead or disabled by 48 than those who kept their noses clean. Serves the little punks right.

The researchers believe the lack of self-control that begins in youth adds up to an adulthood of stress and illness — but even they were surprised by the strength of the connection between sheer badness and early death.

Fate? Divine retribution? I’d be lying if I said that didn’t cross my mind once or twice when I read about this study in the Journal of Public Health. After all, there was no single dominant cause of the early death — they weren’t all druggies or junkies, and they weren’t all stabbed in prison. In fact, they died of a variety of conditions, including heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and cancer. But this is science, not religion, and there’s a far more earthly answer here. Live bad, die young — not because it’s your fate, but because lousy human beings are often lousy to themselves, too.

Most of it’s probably related to diet. I don’t know too many delinquent kids who grow up eating healthy home-cooked balanced meals… heck, I don’t know too many normal kids who grow up eating right anymore. I’m sure most of the delinquents grow up eating the worst of the worst foods… and, if they don’t clean up their act, those habits follow them through adulthood. Their prison terms are probably the healthiest points in their miserable lives. Once out, back to old habits — and a quick trip to death and disability. I’m fine with that — all that means to me is fewer heels taking up space and breathing our honest air.

With Spain´s national public broadcaster TVE no longer accepting advertising, the rest of the country’s broadcasters are strategically planning to lift their advertising rates. In the middle of the current economic crisis, the different TV channels will profit from the new scenario both with a bigger advertising pie and from the mergers of private TV channels Sogecable´s Cuatro-Mediaset´s Telecinco and Grupo Planeta´s Antena 3-Mediapro's la Sexta. Experts say advertising prices will be raised 20% to 25%, particularly in the second half of the year.

Another aspect changing with the new panorama is the negotiation of prices. While last year the negotiations were made on a monthly basis according to what advertisers asked for, that control will likely switch to the broadcasters. Regional TV Channels’ Federation (FORTA) has increased its advertising prices 20% for this month (although these prices remain inferior to those of the private broadcasters). However, this may be seen as a levelling-off of the decreased advertising prices due to the crisis. Full Story

On this day in 1957 Bill Haley & His Comets started the first ever ‘rock & roll tour’ of Australia, playing two sold out nights in Sydney.

1958, The Everly Brothers kicked off a 17 date North American tour in Charlotte, North Carolina. Others on the bill included Buddy Holly, Paul Anka and
 Danny &The Juniors.
1963, The Beatles appeared live on Scottish TV’s Round Up, transmitted from The Theatre Royal, Glasgow. They mimed to ‘Please Please Me.’ The miming was obviously acceptable and in 1966, they started a six week run at No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Rubber Soul’ . The US singles chart preferred We Can Work It Out’ which went to No 1.
1969, Mike Jagger and Keith Richards were both barred from an exclusive hotel for wearing “op art” pants and nothing else. This was the Hotel Crillen in Lima, Peru where they refused to change their clothing.

In 1972 The New Seekers were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing. The song started as a Coca Cola TV advert and originally included the line, ‘I’d like to buy the world a Coke. The lead singer, Lyn Paul, is still singing here on the Costa Blanca.

In 1977 Queen went to No.1 on the UK album chart with ‘Day At The Races.’
1991, Steve Clark guitarist with Def Leppard, was found dead at his Chelsea flat by his girlfriend, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption combined with prescription drugs.

1994, Jamaican duo Chaka Demus and Pliers were at No.1 in the UK with their version of ‘Twist And Shout.’ The song was originally recorded (and produced by Phil Spector) by the Top Notes in 1961 and then covered by The Isley Brothers. It was also covered by The Beatles on their first album Please Please Me. Chaka Demus made a reasonable cover version of this great standard.

1996, There was a good example of the price stars pay for their high earnings. A Los Angeles court found Robert Hoskins guilty of five counts of stalking, assault and making terrorist threats to Madonna. Hoskins had twice scaled the walls of the singer’s estate and had threatened to slash her throat from ear to ear.

2000, Christina Aguilera started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘What A Girl Wants.’ In the same year it was reported that police foiled a £1 million kidnap plot to snatch Victoria Beckham and her baby son. The plot was uncovered after a tip off to the police.

The Beatles were still in the news as in 2004, the estate of George Harrison started a £5.8 million legal action against Dr Gilbert Lederman of Staten Island University Hospital claiming the doctor coerced Harrison to sign souvenirs. The main allegations of the legal action was that Dr Lederman got an extremely sick Harrison to sign his son’s guitar and autographs for his two daughters.

January 8th: Born on this day 1935, , Elvis Aaron Presley, the King of rock ‘n’ roll. He had his first No.1 in 1956 – He died on August 16th 1977.
1937, Born on this day, Shirley Bassey, singer. First charted in the UK in 1957, 1970 UK No.4 single with cover of The Beatles George Harrison song ‘Something’ also James Bond theme ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Diamonds are Forever’.

1945, Born on this day, Terry Sylvester, guitar, vocals, Swinging Blue Jeans, The Hollies, (joined in 1969). 1972 US No.2 single ‘Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress’, 1988 UK No.1 single ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’, first released in 1969.

1947, Born on this day, David Jones, (David Bowie). First UK Top 40 single was the 1969 ‘Space Oddity’ which became a UK No.1 in 1975.

I defy anyone to have predicted all those draws yet what an interesting set of results. Particularly well done to Everton and Bolton who held Chelsea and Manchester City respectively. How will Liverpool fare today? Are Tottenham slipping? Are Aston Villa on the ascendancy?

The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing are at the annual stage of fever pitch. I know it´s either Joe or Olly but has Chris Holins put on his sequins and arranged his facial expressions for the last time. I´ve enjoyed both these shows and will enjoy thier finales after the Liverpool game tomorrow. In the meantime it´s an early night for me as I´m up broadcasting in the morning. Let´s keep you posted on the weather for Alicante province.

Here´s Iris´Challenge for today on my radio show…answer at the foot of the blog

(1) In 1957 these 3 people formed their first band called “The Harmonichords” (also seen as “The Harmony Chords”), a classically styled instrumental harmonica-act.

(2) As The Harmonichords, they appeared on Hughie Green‘s ‘Opportunity Knocks’ on Radio Luxembourg and on the ‘Ed Sullivan’ TV Show St. Patrick’s Day Special (filmed in Dublin, and broadcast 15 March 1959), where they played “Danny Boy. During this time they had many successful songs in the music charts through out the world.
(6) And one person from this group has been interviewed by our very own Vince Tracy

Longevity Strategies For Your Internal Body

By Mary Treacy

To get the most out of life, it is important to feel well as you age. Your health is the most important asset that you have and, as you age, feeling well is necessary for your morale. So we will start our longevity and anti-age strategies by taking care of our internal body. In order to keep healthy at any age, but especially as you are growing older, you really need to make lifestyle changes and, the earlier you start, the better.

Here are some of the main changes you can make:

* Drink plenty of water, as this will wash toxins from your body, keeping your organs healthy. This will have an influence on your physical.

* Eat a balanced diet, as this will prevent too much weight gain. Obesity can lead to all sorts of problems, putting too much pressure on your articulations, heart and other organs. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, if possible at least five portions a day, as they are a source of anti-oxidants that can eliminate free radicals that are the compounds that destroy cells and age your body. Don’t skip meals, as your body will think there is a period of famine and start stocking fat. Make life-style changes that encourage healthy eating over the long term, rather than embarking on strict diets that can encourage the yo-yo effect, and not lead to permanent weight loss. We will go into other diet issues later in this web site.

* Get enough sleep to feel well. Sleeping helps your body and mind to rest and regenerate.

* Have regular check ups. Talk with your doctor and see at what ages and with what regularity you need to see him for total check ups – like revising your car on a yearly basis. Make sure that you also see your doctor if you don’t feel well. This way your doctor will be able to check for the early symptoms of possible incubating diseases and take preventative measures. Ask your doctor or gynaecologist if you can have a test to check that your hormones are present in the normal levels.

* Don’t smoke if you want to feel well. Smoking can increase the aging process and speed it up. It can affect the health of your loved ones, who will inhale the smoke as passive smokers, and pollute the environment. What is worse it is well known now that smoking can lead to lung cancer, a very painful and often terminal disease.

* Exercise regularly, varying cardiac exercise that will keep your heart healthy and prevent weight gain, with exercises to strengthen your muscles. The latter is particularly important in preventing bone loss as you age. Also practise stretching exercises or yoga or Pilates to keep your body flexible. An added bonus of exercise is that the endorphins which it releases in your body will make you feel well, alive and full of the joys of spring.

The day after a young couple had returned from their honeymoon, the bride called her mother in a panic.

“What’s the matter, dear? Was the honeymoon dreadful?”

“No, but oh, Mama! As soon as we got home, he started using the most horrible language! Horrible four-letter words!”

“Darling, shh,” said her mother. “Calm down and tell me what he said that was so awful.”

“Oh, Mama, it’s so embarrassing,” cried the still sobbing bride. “He said words like COOK, IRON, WASH, DUST!”

Received from Joe.

———————————————————–

An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years.

He had a large pond in the back.
It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple, and peach trees.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over.

He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.

As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.

As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond.

He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.

One of the women shouted to him, ‘we’re not coming out until you leave!’

The old man frowned, ‘I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.’

Holding the bucket up he said,
‘I’m here to feed the alligator…’

Some old men can still think fast.
