FOR THE BETTER “ HORSES AND MORE Joan and Ian Charman have lived in Altea on the Costa Blanca for five years. Joan has two sons, Joe and Matt, run the CELLAR BAR, Altea´s premier racing venue where each day the major sports events are shown on the three flat screen TVs. Monday to Friday Ian can be heard on OCI/Ondacero radio (94.6 FM) at about 1.15 on the VINCE THE PRINCE TRACY show giving the Cellar Bar Certs for the day. Here are Ian´s ideas for a bet in November. October was quite a month for sport with the conclusion of both the Rugby WC- I hope you followed my advice on SA and Bryan Habana and the F1 season, as well as some good soccer and top horse racing. Lets see if we can find you some winners this month. November starts with a bang with lots happening on the first weekend, not least the Volvo Masters Golf at Valderama down on the Costa del Sol. Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia & Luke Donald have all been top 10 finishers in the last two years of this end of season competition. The course has been lengthened this year which should suit another with top form at Valderama, including in the Ryder Cup has also been in the top 10 in the last two years, and I take NICLAS FASTH at 16/1. It´s over ten years since JOE CALZAGHE won the world super-middleweight title when he beat Chris Eubank. Since then hes defended that title twenty times, a feat only matched by the great Larry Holmes. On November 3rd the weight division will be unified when he fights undefeated Dane, Mikkel Kessler, at Cardiffs Millennium Stadium. Kessler says he wants a toe to toe fight and Calzaghe retorts he can have the fight in a phone booth if he wants so this one probably won´t go the distance!! I´ll bet the Welshman to stop Kessler inside the distance at 2/1, and also to win in rounds 7,8 or 9 at 7/1. Qualifying for Euro 2008 is completed this month and if SCOTLAND beat Italy in Glasgow on the 17th they are guaranteed a trip to the finals in Portugal. On the same day ENGLAND will be hoping that Israel beat Russia. If the Russians only draw that game, England can still go through by beating Croatia unbeaten in 10 - at Wembley on Wednesday the 21st. You can still get 13/8 against England qualifying and 7/4 against Scotland winning their group. Germany are 5/1 favourites to win the 2008 championship, hosts Portugal are 10s, but I’ve had a couple of bets on aforementioned CROATIA and GREECE both at 20/1. Horse racing also gets off to a flying start this month with the race that stops a nation at Flemington Park on Tuesday 6th ât Australia´s Melbourne Cup. I´m taking Luca Cumani´s PURPLE MOON to upset the locals and bring the cup - and a considerable amount of prize money back to the UK¦ take the 9/2. Others to look out for in November. Paul Nicholls TWIST MAGIC in Exeter´s Haldon Gold Cup and NEW LITTLE BRIC for the Paddy Power at Cheltenham. In the Hennessy at Newbury I hope ACCORDING TO JOHN takes his chance. Gary Moore´ ALTIHAR should be ready for Ascot on the 3rd and look out for RIGHTWAY STAR and CORLANDE both trained by Donald McCain. John Quinn will send KINGS QUAY to Cheltenham with a good chance and I expect Peter Bowen´s CRESSWELL RUBY to win a bumper. Don´t forget to listen to Vince´s show each day for our updates. I hope we all win some money this month and look forward to seeing some of you in the Cellar Bar.
